Modernization of IT Infrastructure and Data Storage Systems for a Government Institution

next

About the Customer

The institution’s activities involve processing large volumes of citizen requests and conducting monitoring missions, which requires a reliable technical infrastructure for data storage and processing.

Challenge

The main driver for modernization was the rapid growth in the number of requests: from 42,000 in 2022 to a projected 120,000+ in 2026. The existing IT infrastructure had reached its capacity limits.

Key technical challenges:

  • Critical shortage of disk space in the existing data storage systems (DSS).
  • Low request processing performance caused by outdated server hardware.
  • The need to automate switching and routing processes to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
  • The requirement for secure remote access for regional offices.

Solution

ABCommunication team implemented a comprehensive project to modernize the central data center and develop the network infrastructure. The main focus was on the physical integration of equipment and the deployment of a fault-tolerant cluster.

Technical components of the solution:

  • Computing power and data storage systems (DSS): Deployment of data processing servers and a backup system with deduplication support.
  • Network security: Building a secure perimeter using Next-Generation Firewalls. Implementation of encrypted IPsec VPN channels for connectivity with 10 regional offices.
  • Infrastructure: Installation of server racks, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and access switches.
  • Management: Implementation of a unified console for centralized management of network equipment in Kyiv and regional offices.

Implementation Stages

The project was implemented within 30 days. The work included:
  1. Design: Development of the network architecture and equipment specifications in accordance with technical requirements.
  2. Infrastructure preparation: Installation of server racks, connection of power supply systems, and structured cabling systems (SCS).
  3. Installation and deployment: Physical installation of hardware and deployment of virtualized data processing systems.
  4. Configuration: Setup of network protocols, IPsec VPN tunnels, and administrative access systems.
  5. Go-live: Software updates and license activation.

Result

Thanks to the implemented technically sound solution, the customer received the following benefits:

  • Scalability: A reserve of storage space and computing power was created to handle the growing volume of incoming requests.
  • Process continuity: Automation of routing and a fault-tolerant virtualization cluster minimized the risk of IT service downtime.
  • Security: Secure remote access was ensured for employees across 10 regions of Ukraine (Poltava, Lutsk, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Uzhhorod, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kropyvnytskyi, Rivne, Lviv).
  • Optimization: Centralized network management enabled IT specialists to efficiently control the infrastructure without the need for on-site visits.
